Coronavirus is spreading like crazy. With each passing day, we see an increasing number on the graph which is scary. This life-threatening pandemic has been attacking our lives, habits, daily routines, and much more. When I talk about the daily routine, going to work, and coming back home is the foremost thing that crosses my mind. I have been working for the last 6 years, but, never have I ever encountered a situation in the past where I was asked to work from home.

Before Corona, work from home was not in our to-do list, But, now CEO’s are demanding a work from home policy to ensure greater productivity and safe health amongst their employees.

A new model, proposed by TCS, 25/25, that requires less office space and more productivity will be implemented until 2025 within the organization, as stated by Subramanium, COO, TCS. The company is exploring possibilities to deepen the remote working model till 2025 and this is a rewarding decision.

WFH helps employees enjoy a better quality of life and this type of business model is well suited for business agility.

Not only IT but other sectors, like, BPO and Finance, have accepted WFH wholeheartedly. Businesses dealing in Finance, Health, Media, and Entertainment are enabling work from home policy to keep them up and running.

Earlier, companies adopted a micro-management culture because they believe people cannot work without supervision. However, the pandemic has resulted in millions of people working from home. At present, 90% of the IT workforce is working remotely and only those performing critical functions are going to offices.

How the popularity of work from home will open more opportunities?

Research says, working for 2–3 days remotely is the most productive in a 5 day work week. This gives us a pretty clear picture- how work from home continues to stay in the long run. As stated by TCS, “We don’t believe that we need to have over 25 percent of our workforce at our facilities to make it 100 percent productive.”

The shift to remote working will be a blessing for women who fail to continue with their careers because of family commitments and other responsibilities. These days most organizations give a chance to women to reshape their career post a hiatus.

But, the downside is, some organizations turn down applications due to gaps. But it’s high time to reconsider things emphatically and the current crisis has shown the world that it is manageable.

Work from home will be the new normal

The idea is to invest more in a remote working space. This new model of work has already begun wherein companies have started adopting zoom meetings, laptops, microphones, and secure working space to keep up the productivity of workers.

We still can’t figure out how this pandemic will culminate. But, it’s extremely important to have a proper plan of action. Let’s pull things together to adopt a new paradigm.
