CHANGE, as we say, is constant. But are we really changing? Especially if I talk about women. Are we really changing our outlook towards the way they sit, laugh, eat, walk and can we just stop judging them?

Today, on the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, I would like to share a few facts:

  1. Every year, around 23 million girls drop out of school after they start menstruating.
  2. Women still had dirty rags, sand, and leaves in villages during their periods.
  3. 70% of reproductive diseases are caused by poor menstrual hygiene.
  4. Myths associated with periods like touching the pickles while menstruating, not entering the temples, still exist.

It’s disgusting

For a long time period has been associated with dirt, fear, and something that is shameful. It’s crazy how we are still attached to the period stigma that makes it difficult for a woman or girl to practice optimal menstrual hygiene.

Not only this but such taboos affect a women’s and girls’ emotional and mental well-being.

What do we need to do?

Instead of overreacting to such a natural thing happening to a girl’s body, we must talk openly about menstruation and educate women and girls.
As long as these foolish beliefs exist, girls will continue to see PERIODS as a shame. Therefore, it is crucial to create awareness. All it takes is one drive to challenge the social outlook.

As a woman, I don’t find any reason to shame or hide away that I bleed. From uncontrollable mood swings to angry outbursts, then back to a stable state — — all in a day. It takes strength. All I can say is that I’m proud that I bleed. It’s important to spread this message like wildfire and emphasize its importance.

What are you doing to contribute towards this?
